Surveillance video has caught the moment a Melbourne couple fought a knife-wielding robber trying to steal from their grocery store.
The armed robber has been identified as 43-year-old Shaun Taylor who this week was sentenced to three years and three months in jail.
The shocking video from the Foodworks store in Collingwood shows Taylor charging towards the counter before pulling a kitchen knife out.
He points the knife at the female owner as he yells at her to get cash out of the register.
Things take a turn when the 68-year-old leans down to get the cash and pushes the duress alarm button repeatedly.
It takes a moment for the thief to realise, but when he does, he rushes around the counter and slashes at the woman with his knife.
Incredibly, the woman was able to fend the man off with a pair of scissors until her husband arrived.
The 67-year-old heroically pushes the man off his wife as the store owners struggle to avoid being stabbed.
Taylor managed to grab some cash before running out of the store.
On Wednesday, he was sentenced to three years and three months in jail in the County Court after pleading guilty to armed robbery and recklessly causing injury.
The court was told that Taylor was a homeless ice addict who had been suffering from withdrawals when the incident occurred.
