Staff at a local grocery store in regional Victoria had an unexpected visitor when a koala casually strolled into the Meeniyan IGA, just off the South Gippsland Highway.
The curious koala, known for hanging around in a nearby grove of trees, decided to explore the store last week. Store owner Kaelene Shervall recounted the experience, explaining that the koala made its way to the entrance and was determined to step inside.
“We really struggled to get him back out,” Ms. Shervall shared during an interview with Today.
Footage from the scene shows the koala calmly wandering through the aisles, even climbing a herbs and spices stand, and pausing to examine a newspaper display and children’s hats. Despite its adventurous nature, the koala caused no damage to the store.
While no harm was done, Ms Shervall admitted she was worried about how the koala would safely return to its natural habitat. Ultimately, the staff cleverly used a ladder to gently guide the koala out and back to safety.
