CCTV footage shows moments before Melbourne supermarket robbed

Police have released previously unseen footage of the moments before a young man brazenly robs a Melbourne supermarket at gunpoint in broad daylight.

Officers have been investigating the armed robbery since September 15, 2020, when a young man wielded a firearm and demanded cash from the store employee.

The footage shows the young man, believed to be in his 20s, clad in an orange and black high visibility jumper, black pants, cap and face mask.

At around 12.15pm, the surveillance footage shows the man standing inside the front entrance of the Aldi supermarket and reading what appears to be the special buys catalogue.

He pauses for a moment before looking at the CCTV camera and strolling casually into the store while wearing a small backpack.

A few minutes later, the young man is seen loitering outside the Carrum Downs supermarket on Frankston-Dandenong Rd.

Police allege a store attendant was outside the Aldi when the young man approached him and revealed he was carrying a firearm. The young man allegedly handed the employee an empty bag and demanded he fill it with cash.

He allegedly followed the staff member to the cash register to watch him fill the bag before running off with the bag of money.

After nearly two years of investigation, police are hopeful the public will be able to assist in identifying the young man in the footage.

Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the armed robbery is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
