Ashfield IGA staff ‘pepper sprayed’

Two teen girls have been charged and will appear in children’s court on Wednesday.

A supermarket manager was allegedly pepper sprayed in the face while trying to stop teen shoplifters raiding their store.

Two girls, aged 13 and 14 respectively, have been charged with aggravated armed robbery over the alleged incident at Ashfield IGA on Monday.

The teens appeared in Perth Children’s Court on Wednesday.

Ashfield IGA manager Sarah Wang said ice creams and drinks were stolen and described the incident as “very upsetting”.

Police say the girls entered the store on Coulston Rd about 4.45pm and began picking items off store shelves before allegedly hiding them under their clothes.
