A Woolworths spokesperson has responded after the shopper shared his concerns on social media.
Sharing on Facebook, the Sydney shopper suggested Woolies staff “recheck their milk supply” after taking a closer look at the 3L carton of Dairy Farmers Full Cream Milk that he’d brought home that day.
Despite buying the item on February 22, 2022, from Woolworths Wetherill Park, the milk in question had an expiry of February 8 – making it 14 days out of date.
A Woolworths spokesperson has told 7NEWS.com.au the supermarket is investigating the incident.
The customer shared a photo of the expired milk, as well as his receipt, to show exactly when it was purchased.
“Heads up, you might want to get your staff at the Wetherill Park store to recheck their milk supply,” he wrote.
“Just bought it an hour ago. Please keep in mind today’s the 22nd.
“I tried to reach out to the store multiple times with no success. Phone kept ringing out.”
The shopper was criticised by one social media user for not noticing the milk had expired prior to purchasing it.
However, the shopper said that wasn’t his responsibility.
“When you are juggling little kids and the shopping you try and do your best,” he said.
“The issue I have is … it shouldn’t be my job to ensure [Woolworths] staff are doing their job!
“Would you go and check the use-by date on your McDonald’s meal?”
Woolworths responds
Woolworths told 7NEWS.com.au all milk stock at the store in question is now in date.
“We take food safety and quality very seriously and are disappointed to see the customer’s report,” the spokesperson said.
“We’ve followed this up with our Wetherill Park store team who checked all current stock of milk.
“Every product is within its use-by date.
“We’re looking into this instance further and are working through a resolution with the customer involved.”
Woolworths serves more than 20 million customers per week in its supermarkets across Australia.
