Shopper discovers secret brake on Woolworths trolleys

Woolworths shopper has discovered a little-known feature on the trolleys at her local store that may surprise many.

Sharing on TikTok, customer Mikhaela said she was stunned to find that her Woolies shopping cart had a foot brake.

The shopper’s video shows a red lever situated on the back right-hand wheel.

In the footage, you can see Mikhaela use her foot to activate the brake by simply pressing down on the lever.

To release it, she used the front of her toe and thong to lift the lever up again.

“I was 26 years old when I realised Woolworths trolleys have a brake! Please tell me I’m not alone!” Mikhaela said in her video.

She added: “UMMMM SINCE WHEN??? I think I’ve been living under a rock for the past 26 years.”

The function is particularly handy for shoppers while loading their groceries into their cars.

7NEWS.com.au understands that only selected Woolworths stores carry trolleys that have the brake mechanism.

It’s believed trolleys with foot brakes can often be found in Woolworths stores that have sloping car parks.

Woolworths trolleys that are manufactured to carry two children in the trolley seat also feature the back brake, so that customers can carefully load and unload children and groceries in a safe way.

TikTok users have made it clear they think more stores should have them, saying trolley brakes are a great idea.

“Only some shops have them, not all. But I think all trolleys should have them,” said one.
