Murgon supermarket plans approved

Murgon’s retail offering is set to grow after the South Burnett Regional Council approved plans for a new supermarket in the town.

The development will be located at 130 Lamb Street and is the work of local businessman Paul Brunjes, who owns the long-established Murgon Fruit Mart. The store has been serving the community for around 30 years. Mr Brunjes purchased the business in 2005 after working there as a casual employee for several years.

The new venture will be an expansion of the Fruit Mart, becoming a full-scale Spar supermarket to compete with the existing IGA in town. Fresh produce will remain central to the business, with Mr Brunjes committed to making regular trips to the markets to maintain quality and variety for customers.

The supermarket will be approximately five times larger than the current Fruit Mart and will include a bakery, frozen foods section and delicatessen. Local business Wiley’s Butchery will also be relocating into the premises.

According to plans, the site will provide 23 customer parking spaces. The supermarket is expected to open between mid and late 2026.
