Inside Harris Farm’s new fancy supermarket in Australia

‘It’s so beautiful it almost made me cry’.

Harris Farm has opened a new lavish store in Australia – boasting an in-house butcher and fishmonger, Messina parlour, build-a-cookie-pie station and 500 cheese varieties from around the world.

The Lane Cove outlet is a one-of-a-kind “upmarket grocery shop” in Sydney – offering shoppers more than just a standard supermarket.

Instead of traditional aisles, the layout features categorised sections with different names such as Fairyland, Bakers Cottage, Dessert Cove, Flower Patch, The Juicery, Wholesome Harvest and The Cook and Baker and Proper Meat.

“It feels like you’re at Disneyland,” one customer tells 7Life.

Shoppers are greeted with an abundance of fruit and vegetables, a gourmet deli, in-house baker, hot food offerings, popcorn cart, huge doughnut display, milk on tap and a “pour-your-own” station for juice, honey, coffee and more.

“It’s not like a normal supermarket,” the shopper says.

‘Quite a spectacle’

“It was quite overwhelming at first because there was a lot to take in but it was amazing, quite a spectacle… I haven’t seen anything like it.”

She said the “cool” features of the store reminded her of a theme park.

‘Carnivalesque atmosphere’

“The map, signs, structure, energy and music were a resemblance to Disneyland. The store has a lively, carnivalesque atmosphere,” she says.

“The layout had the same flow as a theme park. You had to wait for your turn to get to a different section, just like waiting to go on a ride.

“Everyone was having the best time, the kids were having a lot of fun with the popcorn cart.

“It’s definitely a place where people can hang out. I spent 40 minutes in there, it was so cool.”

Upon visiting the store, foodie Adrian Widjonarko posted a TikTok video about the unique features.

“This has got to be the largest Harris Farm I’ve ever been to,” he said.

“There’s so many things to discover. It has a whole Messina section, popcorn and honey station, there’s a pizza area as well as sushi and sashimi.

“There’s a lot of samples throughout the shop, bakery, lots of cakes to choose from, a milk tap and custom cookies.”
