Coles shopper shares alarming find in bag of ‘ready-to-eat’ spinach

A Coles spokesperson has responded after the customer shared the concerning discovery on social media, leaving one user ‘traumatised’.

Coles customer has shared photographs of an alarming discovery in a popular salad buy.

Sharing on Facebook, the shopper said he was shocked when he took a closer look at the contents of a bag of Coles Baby Spinach.

While the pack is marked “washed and ready to eat”, the shopper noted that there was a spider among the spinach leaves.

“Thanks for the surprise Coles in our baby spinach,” the customer wrote.

Expert Milan Prasad said the spider is from the Sparassidae family – commonly known as huntsman spiders – and is likely a Neosparassus.

The photographs shocked several social media users.

“I’m traumatised,” said one Facebook user.

Another joked: “Extra protein for a growing boy?”

Coles responds

Coles spokesperson has told 7NEWS.com.au that the supermarket “takes the quality of all our products seriously.”

“We urge customers with a complaint to contact our Customer Care team so we can follow up their concerns,” the spokesperson said.

“As always we encourage customers to return any item they’re not 100% happy with to their nearest store for a full refund or replacement.”
