A knife-wielding man has been charged with multiple offences after allegedly carrying out a frenzied rampage across Adelaide including stabbing a supermarket customer, stealing cars, crashing and trying to flee a police pursuit.
The 32-year-old man embarked on a series of incidents at O’Sullivan Beach around 7.30am with the first victim a customer at the Friendly Grocer supermarket on Galloway Road who he allegedly chased down and stabbed.
“The man ran to outside the shop and then they were fighting outside and the man fell down onto the ground,” supermarket owner Bruce Song told 9News.
The 54-year-old victim was taken to Flinders Medical Centre in a serious condition.
Police say the attacker then stole his victim’s silver Ford Mondeo and crashed it soon after into another car on O’Sullivan Beach Road.
CCTV shows the man check that the innocent driver of the blue Mazda was okay before taking off again.
“He was just in the car but a bit dazed. There was smoke coming out of the back of the car. The car was still moving. So luckily another guy came over and dragged him out of the car,” witness Bal Steele said.
The driver of the car he hit was put under observation while the driver’s husband went to the crash scene to assess the damage.
“She was on the way to pick someone up and they were going down to Willunga to play golf,” the victim’s husband said.
“We’re all a bit shocked I think. It’s not what you plan.”
Another camera then captured the suspect entering a workshop armed with a knife.
One of the workers ran and another armed himself with a pole while a security guard tried to talk the knife-wielding intruder around.
The man is alleged to have then stolen another car and tried to flee a police pursuit.
Officers eventually spiked his tyres at the intersection of Beach and Main South Roads.
The 32-year-old was taken to Flinders Medical Centre where doctors were already treating two of his alleged victims.
The man’s other alleged victims have told 9News they were shaken, but unharmed.
The man has been charged with numerous serious offences including attempted murder, dangerous driving, aggravated robbery and aggravated assault.
He was refused police bail and will face court on Tuesday.
