A new Aldi supermarket has opened – but it’s unlike any other Australian store, selling artisan bread, freshly brewed coffee and ready-to-go meals.
Aldi has launched a new store like no other – complete with an extensive ready-to-go meal section and iconic Special Buys.
The German supermarket giant debuted its first Corner Store in North Sydney last year – and now it has taken the concept to Victoria, opening another in the heart of the Melbourne CBD on Swanson St.
The new Aldi store opened on September 8 and features an array of ready-to-go meals – everything from sushi to sandwiches – as well as a bakery and even its iconic Special Buys.
The store has a sleek design and self-checkouts to make it an easy experience for customers.
The bakery will feature fresh, artisinal bread – including a Grain + Stone sourdough that is exclusive to the Aldi store, as well as baguettes, cinnamon buns, croissants and danishes.
Aldi Corner Stores director Huw Longman said: “Aldi’s Corner Stores have been designed to better meet the needs of our customers in high-density, urban areas. Shopping habits continue to evolve, and we are seeing a large audience of people who prefer shopping more frequently with a hyper-focus on convenience.
“The Aldi Corner Store is designed purposefully to meet these needs, taking convenience and creativity and combining it with the kind of quality and savings that only Aldi can offer. It’s a curated experience for inner-city Melburnians that puts convenience at the centre alongside Aldi’s renowned value.”
As a tribute to Melbourne’s artistic community there is also a mural by artist George Rose, known for her trademark blend of vibrant colours and abstract strokes to create a captivating in-store installation.
To celebrate the store’s opening, customers who enter the store on Thursday and Friday will be able to enjoy a $0.37 barista-brewed Lazzio coffee.
All sales of Lazzio barista-brewed coffees as part of the opening will be donated directly to Aldi’s national charity partner Camp Quality.
In addition, for every reusable cup brought to the store for the coffee, Aldi will double the donation amount for that sale.
Aldi buying director Varun Rahejasaid: “We are so excited to bring a unique in-store pop-up to Melbourne for the launch of Victoria’s first Corner Store.
“And who better to sample our coffee than the coffee aficionados of Melbourne’s CBD – who have worked the formula of delicious coffee and impressive convenience down to a fine art.
“With our Lazzio coffee receiving the Golden Bean Award for the past three consecutive years and the Canstar Award for being the Best Retail Coffee in Australia this year, we’re confident our beans stack up and will impress the coffee-loving Melburnians.”
Aldi has committed to donating $1.5 million and raising another $1 million every year for Camp Quality.
