Victoria Police are actively searching for a group of criminals responsible for a string of robberies at four supermarkets across Melbourne’s south-east on Saturday afternoon.
According to police, three men armed with knives assaulted store workers and stole cash and cigarettes. They then escaped in a white Mercedes, believed to have been driven by a fourth accomplice.
The crime spree began around 3:50 p.m. at a supermarket on Bernard Street in Cheltenham, where the offenders attacked a 19-year-old employee, causing minor injuries.
Next, the group targeted a supermarket on Cochrane Street in Brighton, again brandishing knives. They demanded cash and cigarettes and assaulted three employees.
Around 6 p.m., police were called to a third supermarket on Andrew Street in Mount Waverley, followed by another call to a supermarket on Through Road in Camberwell. In both instances, the group threatened staff with a knife, demanded cash and cigarettes, and fled in the same white Mercedes.
Victoria Police are urging witnesses or individuals with dashcams or CCTV footage to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
“The offenders have not been located, and the investigation into these incidents is ongoing,” a police spokesperson stated.
